5. Super Bowl XXIII
In Super Bowl XXIII, the Cincinnati Bengals were leading the San Francisco 49ers 16-13 with 3:10 on the clock. Unfortunately for them, that was more than enough time for Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana to pick the Bengals defense apart. Montana and the 49ers offense gained 92 yards in 11 plays to make the final score 20-16:

4. Super Bowl XXXVI
The legend of Tom Brady started with Super Bowl XXXVI. Brady, originally a backup for Drew Bledsoe, led his team to an early lead, but St. Louis Rams quarterback Kurt Warner erased his team’s deficit with a touchdown that tied the game 17-17. The New England Patriot marched on behind the confidence of a young Brady, and with seven seconds left in the game, clutch kicker Adam Vinateri nailed a 48-yard field goal to win the game as time expired:

3. Super Bowl XXV
Like other entrants on this list, Super Bowl XXV is the story of a team who loses in heartbreaking fashion. The Buffalo Bills were down by 20-19 against the New York Giants with 2:16 left to go. Quarterback Jim Kelly led his team 61 yards down the field to give his kicker Scott Norwood a chance to win the game with a 47-yard field goal with 8 seconds to go. Unfortunately for Buffalo, Norwood’s kick sailed wide right, and the Bills lost the game:

2. Super Bowl XXXIV
The say that defense wins championships, and that certainly was the case here. The St. Louis Rams and the Tennessee Titans defenses kept the game so close that it wasn’t decided until the final drive. Down 23-16 with less than two minutes to go, and pinned at their own 10 yard line, Titans quarterback Steve “Air” McNair kept his team alive with one ridiculous play after another. Unfortunately, the Titans ran out of miracles. On the last play of the game, Titans wide receiver Kevin Dyson was tackled one yard short of the end zone, preventing the game from going into overtime:

1. Super Bowl XLII
Super Bowl XLII is hands down the greatest one ever played. The Patriots were on the verge of becoming the second undefeated team in NFL history going into this game, and everyone who knew anything about football was picking them to defeat the New York Giants, a pesky little team that barely made the playoffs and would just not go away. The Patriots were less than a minute away from perfection until a little known player named David Tyree slayed the Goliath with what became known as the “Helmet Catch.” The Giants went on to win the game 17-14:
